BALTORO K2 BASE CAMP TREK
The trek to K2 Base Camp is a challenging adventure for mountaineers and trekkers in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, is located near the Baltoro Glacier, one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions.
The trek usually starts from Askole, which can be reached by jeep from Skardu, approximately a 6-7 hour drive. The route follows the Baltoro Glacier and passes notable landmarks like Paiju, Concordia, and the Godwin-Austen Glacier. Due to high altitude, rough terrain, and unpredictable weather, trekkers must be physically fit and acclimatized.
This journey offers stunning views of the Karakoram Range and requires proper preparation, equipment, and guidance. Trekkers also need permits to enter restricted areas, which can be obtained through registered trekking agencies in Pakistan.
