Khusar Gung Peak- Shigar Karakorum

Climbing Khusar Gang Peak (also known as Khosar Gang or Koser Gunge) in the Shigar Valley of Pakistan's Karakoram Range offers an exhilarating yet accessible high-altitude mountaineering experience. With an elevation of approximately 6,046 meters (some sources cite heights up to 6,400 meters), this peak is ideal for climbers seeking a less technical ascent in a stunning alpine setting.

The best time to attempt the climb is from June to September, with optimal conditions typically found in July and August. The difficulty level is moderate, making it suitable for climbers with basic mountaineering experience. The trek to the base camp takes about 7 to 8 hours and reaches an elevation of 3,800 meters.

The higher camps are located as follows:

  • Camp I: 4,800 meters
  • Camp II: 5,200 meters

The summit push involves glacier travel, snow slopes of up to 45 degrees, and a short section that requires fixed ropes. Khusar Gang is often used as an acclimatization peak for larger Karakoram expeditions. While the ascent is considered non-technical, climbers will encounter challenges such as glacier crossings, crevasses, and steep snow slopes. Proficiency in the use of crampons, ice axes, and basic rope techniques is essential.

From the summit, climbers are treated to panoramic views of K2, Broad Peak, Masherbrum, and other notable peaks.

HIGHLIGHTS OF TREK

  • Stunning Views: Spectacular panoramic views of the Dhauladhar range, alpine meadows, and lush green forests.
  • Cultural Experience: Visit local villages and interact with the friendly Himachali people.
  • Diverse Flora and Fauna: Explore dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. You may also spot wildlife like Himalayan Monal, pheasants, and various species of birds.
