Trango Towers Baltoro- Karakorum
The Trango Towers are a group of dramatic granite spires located in the Baltoro Glacier region of the Karakoram Range in northern Pakistan. They are renowned among climbers for offering some of the most challenging rock climbing and big-wall routes in the world. The Trango Tower Expedition typically focuses on climbing one or more of these iconic peaks, with the most famous being the Great Trango Tower, which stands at 6,286 meters (20,608 feet) and is known for having the tallest nearly vertical cliff face in the world.
To promote trekking and mountaineering in Pakistan, the Government of Pakistan has made it free to climb peaks under 6,500 meters in altitude without a climbing permit or any associated fees. This offers a fantastic opportunity for climbers to tackle these spectacular peaks in the Karakoram. Climbers only need a trekking permit to enter the Baltoro region, which can be arranged through a briefing and debriefing at the Tourism Department in Skardu or the Alpine Club in Islamabad. There is no requirement for a climbing permit, royalty fee, or liaison officer.
Great Trango Tower:
The East Face of the Great Trango Tower is renowned for its sheer verticality. It features technical climbing with extreme exposure, making it one of the longest and most difficult big-wall routes globally.
Nameless Tower (Trango Tower):
Standing at approximately 6,239 meters (20,469 feet), the Nameless Tower is popular among climbers for its stunning vertical routes, including the "Eternal Flame," a classic alpine rock-climbing route.
Shipton Spire:
Shipton Spire, which reaches a height of 5,910 meters, is another challenging endeavor in Pakistan's Karakoram Range that attracts experienced climbers from around the world. This granite tower, located near the Trango Towers, offers technical big-wall routes with pitches rated up to 7b+, making it one of the most demanding climbs in the region.
